Project Overview

We are seeking a creative and innovative Research Intern to join our team in designing, developing and engineering hardwares and softwares for soft robotic arms, with a particular focus on assistive applications through collaboration with humans. The successful candidate will work closely with our research team to design, prototype and test novel systems aimed at addressing real-world challenges in manipulation and interaction tasks.

Key Responsibilities

-Assist in the conceptualization and design of soft robot and its systems.

-Conduct research and ideation sessions to explore the functionality of soft robotic arms, emphasizing functionality, flexibility, and material compliance.

-Collaborate with the team to prototype and test arm designs, using techniques such as 3D printing, soft lithography, and advanced material selection.

-Support the integration of sensors (e.g., tactile, force, or proximity sensors) and actuators to enhance the intelligence of the whole system.

-Participate in experimental validation and performance testing of the designed systems for applications like object manipulation, collaborative working with humans.

-Document experimental results, analyze data, and propose improvements to optimize design and functionality.

-Contribute to technical discussions, brainstorming sessions, and project meetings with the research team.

Requirements

-Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Design, Mechatronics, or a related field.

-Hands-on experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360) and familiarity with soft robotic design principles.

-Interest in soft robotics, wearable and assitive robotics.

-Familiarity with prototyping techniques such as 3D printing, silicone casting, or additive manufacturing for soft materials.

-Basic knowledge of material properties for soft robotics, such as elastomers, hydrogels, or textiles, is an advantage.

-Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, creativity, and enthusiasm for innovation in robotic manipulation systems.

This internship is only open to full-time matriculated or registered students in the six autonomous universities Singapore. The internship must be approved by the University.
