Project Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated research intern to join our project on AI-driven education technology. This research focuses on leveraging AI to enhance the assessment of classroom interactions and provide insightful feedback for educators. By integrating multimodal AI techniques, we aim to develop scalable and cost-effective solutions for automated assessment with human alignment.

 

This project is part of SMART's Mens, Manus and Machina (M3S) program, focusing on how

AI empowers people and the city in Singapore.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on AI applications in education, focusing on multimodal learning and automated assessment with human alignment.
  • Develop and refine AI models for processing and analyzing classroom-related data.
  • Implement and evaluate machine learning models for structured annotation and feedback generation.
  • Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and educators to refine AI-driven methodologies.
  • Contribute to research publications in relevant AI and education conferences/journals.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in the application of AI in education.
  • Experience in training and using multimodal AI models (e.g., integrating text, vision, and audio).
  • Proficiency in machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch and transformers (Hugging Face).
  • Strong software engineering skills with a focus on coding standards, reproducibility, and version control.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute novel research ideas.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Background in educational technology and familiarity with teaching assessment methodologies.
  • Publication record in top AI conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ACL, EMNLP) or educational technology journals.
  • Experience in training large-scale models for NLP or multimodal learning.

This internship is only open to full-time matriculated or registered students in the six autonomous universities Singapore. The internship must be approved by the University.
