Project Overview

We are seeking a motivated and innovative Research Intern to join our team in advancing research on robotic mobile bases with automatic trajectory generation, obstacle avoidance, and motion planning. This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge developments in mobile robotics, with a focus on designing and implementing intelligent systems for real-world navigation and task execution. The successful candidate will work alongside our research team, gaining practical experience in algorithm development, simulation, and prototyping for robotic mobility and autonomy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of robotic mobile bases, focusing on advanced trajectory planning and obstacle avoidance algorithms.
  • Conduct research and brainstorming sessions to generate innovative ideas for motion planning strategies and navigation optimization.
  • Collaborate with the team to simulate robotic movements using tools like ROS (Robot Operating System), Gazebo, or similar platforms.
  • Support the implementation and integration of sensors (e.g., LiDAR, cameras, IMUs) for real-time perception and environment mapping.
  • Participate in the prototyping and testing of mobile base systems, contributing to iterative design and performance enhancements.
  • Document experimental results, analyze data, and propose improvements to optimize system functionality.
  • Engage in technical discussions, contribute to brainstorming sessions, and actively participate in project meetings with the research team.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with motion planning algorithms (e.g., RRT, A*, D* Lite) and basic knowledge of obstacle avoidance techniques.
  • Experience with simulation tools like ROS, Gazebo, or equivalent software.
  • Understanding of robotic kinematics and control principles is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen interest in mobile robotics and autonomous systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Hands-on experience with sensors (e.g., LiDAR, depth cameras) and hardware integration is a plus but not required.

This internship is only open to full-time matriculated or registered students in the six autonomous universities Singapore. The internship must be approved by the University.
