IRG_M3S_T1I_2025_002
Project Title
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Intern to join our five-year, ambitious research program on "Mens, Manus and Machina—How AI Empowers People, Institutions and Cities in Singapore (M3S)" supported by NRF CREATE.
We are looking for a passionate and innovative Research Intern to join our team in the design, development, and prototyping of a mobile manipulator robot. This internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in mechanical design, construction, and testing of an automated mobile manipulator that enhances mobility and load management. The successful candidate will collaborate with our engineering team to exploreinnovative solutions for ergonomic, efficient, and durable designs, contributing to the development of a next-generation mobile manipulator for real-world applications.
Responsibilities
Assist in the design and development of mobile manipulator components using CAD software, with a focus on lightweight and ergonomic structures.
Develop spatial computing algorithms to support the robot with 3D spatial understanding, object detection and SLAM capabilities
Conduct research and ideation sessions to explore innovative designs for improving mobility, load-bearing capacity, and ease of use.
Collaborate with the team to prototype and assemble robot components, contributing to iterative design optimization.
Support the integration of mechanical and structural elements to ensure functionality, stability, and durability.
Participate in performance testing and experimental validation of the robot, documenting results and proposing design improvements.
Contribute to technical discussions and brainstorming sessions with the research team.
Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Robotics, or a related field.
Hands-on experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360) and a solid understanding of mechanical design principles.
Hands-on experience with Deep Learning Libraries (Pytorch, Tensorflow) and designing 3D spatial computing algorithms.
Familiarity with prototyping and testing mechanical components.
Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and interest in product design and ergonomics.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Basic knowledge of load management and wheel dynamics is a plus but not required.
This internship is only open to full-time matriculated or registered students in the six autonomous universities Singapore. The internship must be approved by the University.
