Responsibilities
- Provide accounting information and recommendations to achieve the SMART Centre’s operational objectives.
- Oversee and provide direct supervision to the payment and reconciliation staff members.
-Responsible for managing and coordination for the implementation for the SMART financial on-line system.
- Provide recommendations to improve processes and operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Prepare regular monthly financial statements for all of SMART's activities by combining data from both the SMART Centre and MIT.
- Prepare annual financial statements for all of SMART’s activities in accordance with Singapore's generally accepted accounting principles.
- Prepare financial reports with supporting documentation for Board meetings and sponsors.
- Serve as SMART’s liaison and coordinator for audits, including internal and external audits.
- Prepare and submit corporate tax reports to the Singapore authorities.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly research account statements to the SMART Centre researchers.
- Review, verify and endorse the monthly billing from MIT to the SMART Centre working closely with MIT's SMART office.
- Work together with the rest of the SMART Centre financial team to review and make recommendations on how to improve business processes, policies and internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements.
- Work closely with the MIT Office of the Vice President for Finance and MIT's SMART Offfice on financial matters.
- Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to quarterly closing, annual consolidation, export control and other compliance.
- Oversee and maintain the finance policy, forms and agreements.
- Assist in corporate secretarial for preparation of board documents.
- Prepare external surveys on financial inputs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, CPA preferred.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in accounting and finanical operations, including closing processes, financial reporting, and financial analysis.
- Must be able to work collboratively with colleagues and external partners.
- Experience in auditing or working closely with auditors.
- Corporate tax reporting experience would be a plus, especially if it is in a non-profit organization
- Experience with automated financial and account reporting system, SAP preferred, and proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Good knowledge of accounting standards and processes, with good understanding of statutory and legal requirements.
- Working with international partners is a plus.
- Self-starter who is able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as work effectively as part of a team.
- Well-organized, demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of either SMART or MIT is desirable.
