Postdoctoral Associate
IRG_DISTAP_2023_003
Project Overview
The DiSTAP programme addresses deep problems in food production in Singapore and the world by developing a suite of impactful and novel analytical, genetic and biosynthetic technologies. DiSTAP is one of the five Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs) of the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART). The postdoctoral research fellow will join an interdisciplinary team of chemists, engineers and plant biologists in the development of novel nanoparticle carriers to deliver nucleic acids, proteins and other biomolecules into the plant cells. These novel tools will enable efficient plant engineering for high-density farming and next-generation agriculture.
Responsibilities
- Develop nanocarrier formulations to protect and deliver proteins and other biomolecules into plant cells
- Design both synthetic and biologically-derived nanocarriers
- Perform regular plant imaging experiments using fluorescence or confocal microscopy
- Grow and maintain plants for experiments
- Work collaboratively and train junior lab members
Requirements
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Plant Biology or related fields.
- Published at least 1-2 publications as a first author in top international peer-reviewed journals
- Experience in nanomaterial or biomaterial synthesis for biomolecule delivery (e.g. gene or protein delivery)
- Experience in bioimaging, such as confocal and fluorescence microscopy
- Strong communication and analytical skills
Interested applicants are invited to send in their full CV/resume, cover letter and list of three references (to include reference names and contact information). We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
